BT helps you take an interactive virtual tour of Tate Modern’s recent re-hang to see priceless works of art come to life online
Tate Modern can now be enjoyed from the comfort of your own house – or office – thanks to Explore Tate Modern, a new interactive tour offered on Tate Online.
Launched by Andrew Marr, host of the BBC Sunday morning show AM, and developed jointly by Tate Online and BT, Explore Tate Modern offers web users a virtual experience of visiting Tate Modern and provides a guide to the recent re-hang, the UBS Openings Tate Modern Collection.
The clear roll-over map format of the site enables users to examine the Collection in detail, with the help of glossary definitions. Users can also explore non-gallery spaces and create their own ‘virtual tour’, while a comprehensive timeline, captions and audio clips make the experience even more rewarding.
‘The concept of being guided through the recent re-hang of the Collection at Tate Modern is unique,’ says Marr. ‘Thanks to Tate and BT, Explore Tate Modern offers a depth of information and interactivity about the artworks on display that is groundbreaking, making art accessible to everyone, everywhere.’
Jemima Reillie, head of digital programmes at Tate, adds, ‘It has never been easier for visitors to locate a work or movement of interest or indeed to re-visit the space that captured their imagination.’ To view the Collection online go to www.tate.org.uk/modern/explore/

When the avian flu crisis was in the news recently, did you wonder how your business – both its staff and IT – would be affected by a pandemic or other similar crisis?
A key issue is whether you have the right ICT in place to keep your business functioning if your main site is affected. Would you, for example, be able to work from home or on the move?
Technology that can enable business to continue as normal could be anything from fast and secure broadband to crystal clear IP telephony to slick video conferencing. It’s also wise to look at expanding your online transaction and self-service options for customers and partners when alternatives fail.
The employee skills your firm relies on need to be identified now, too, while critical suppliers also need investigation to identify if they have continuity plans in place too.
